littlemousling: Photo of Adam Lambert laughing (laugh)
So I was saying something on Twitter about how much easier it is to write really dirty-hot fic when Adam Lambert is involved, because while, eg, fanon!RyanRoss may think he's a sex god, fanon!Adam actually is.

... and then someone said something about Adam/RyRo, and this happened.

Not!fic of which I am mildly ashamed ... okay, that's a lie, I'm super proud. But I SHOULD be ashamed. And I have no idea how it ended up going to an S/R place. )

Dreamwidth-hosted bandom comment-fic fest ahoy!

It already contains fills by [personal profile] fictionalaspect and an anonymous awesome Gabe/Vicky-T writer and yours truly, I'm just saying.

(Mine is also posted at the AO3 now, because I ... just really really like archives. They're so pretty and searchable and nice. ::pets it::

So! Go forth and prompt and fill! Let's have a grand ol' time!
littlemousling: Dragon's head with ship (from the Temeraire series) (temeraire)
So you know how [personal profile] astolat has that way of writing stuff, especially dubcon, where you're like "THIS SHOULD FEEL SO WRONG, SO VERY WRONG, BUT SOMEHOW IT DOESN'T BECAUSE SHE IS MAGIC"? Like. It should not work! Except that she is very deft and so it DOES.

So. Here is why having a fangirlfriend is awesome:

Me: [hilariously bad come-on]
Me: Whatever, baby, don't front, I am the astolat of dirty talk for you.

(This paraphrase brought to you by elderflower cocktails.)
littlemousling: Animated gif of Adam Lambert saying in an interview, "I like the top" (Adam likes the top)
I love the idea of this meme (which I first saw at [personal profile] woldy's journal), because I have definite Thoughts about what draws readers in. However, my top ten are pretty much all the same, so instead, I'm gonna do top five/bottom five.

My top five stories by hitcount )

So for some reason I haven't generally used this journal as a fic journal in the past? Whatever, I'm sure past!me had her reasons, but I have forgotten them, so here we go.

Title: Red Like Roses
Pairing: Spencer/Brendon
Rating: Explicit

littlemousling: Image of Jon Walker, formerly of Panic at the Disco, with googly eyes. Word "lol" is next to him. (lol)
Muskrat was great! I really can't possibly describe the whole weekend, so I will follow [personal profile] merisunshine36's example and list some highlights:

--the crafts table, which I kind of thought was stupid and then discovered is AMAZING. The icon is a sample of my work. I HAVE EXPRESSED MY FEELINGS ABOUT JON WALKER IN THE FORM OF GOOGLY EYES AND STICKER LETTERS YOU GUYS.

--the anal panel, about which I mostly just want to set up an easy That's What He Said joke but I will refrain. It was excellent.

--the dance party! omg you guys, my calves hurt SO MUCH right now and it is SO WORTH IT. Being able to dance to Guilty Pleasure and If I Had You and (Planetary) Go with a room full of fangirls? EXCELLENT. Also the drinks were very good and the company was better, and I got to go home with the sexiest woman in the room.

--the bandom history panel was eye-opening. ALL OF THE DRAMAS and awesomeness! Is there a collection of wanks stored somewhere so that I can go gawk years after the fact?

--the panel on fandom outside of LJ really helped me solidify the content that I like from each of the outlets that I use (twitter, tumblr, here, delicious, etc). Very interesting.

--I got a shit-ton of knitting done.

--[personal profile] amazonziti gave me YET ANOTHER great fic idea that I kind of can't help wanting to write. This is basically her new goal in my life, I suspect. DAMMIT Z. ::writes::

--I was dubconned into watching Alias by [personal profile] mistresscurvy. It turns out to be fabulous, damn her.

--we somehow lucked into an INCREDIBLE hotel room, a big suite with a California King. This made the fact that she also got a bunch of other people* watching Alias easier, as we could sit four across and watch one laptop. Some cuddling was required to make it work, but I'm always happy to take that one for the team.
*like the lovely [personal profile] merisunshine36 and the fabulous [personal profile] desfinado!

Also I got to have a really lovely dinner and hang-out with my kid sister, and a really great phone call with my bff, some really fabulous time with my [personal profile] mistresscurvy, and a fun lunch with one of her brothers.

First, [personal profile] astolat is asking for recs (books and fic), which has resulted in several people wholeheartedly recommending ... her own series of novels. Hi-larious. See, for instance, this comment thread or this one (both on the LJ version of the post).

Second, there's this photo Yay fun arrow cut! )
that just came out of some random dudes waiting to get into an Adam Lambert concert. What I love about the photo is that the couple on the middle left? Could totally be two of the three guys Adam banged in the groupies fic I wrote last week. I don't think the other one is in that picture,* but seriously, I am enjoying the coincidence muchly (and the fact that someone brought it to my attention! So sweet of @zoranaless! ILH).

Third, I finished the second Princess Series novel and am now totally writing, because--Snow! And Talia! And also other characters but that would be telling!

*Obvious disclaimer is obvious: none of them are in that picture, as they are 100% fictional and the picture only contains actual human beings.

littlemousling: Drawing of Talia and Snow from The Mermaid's Madness (book), text says "OTP." (Talia/Snow)
OK, people. There is not enough femslash in the world--we can all agree on that, right? And also not enough great female characters. AND YET, there is no category on AO3 for Jim Hines' Princess Series, which features the great Snow and Talia (and Danielle and Beatrice and Charlotte and Lannadae and Hephyra and and and!).

Talia: kickass and human and kind of damaged and graceful and of color and a princess and a secret bodyguard/spy for the queen

Snow: kickass and magical and human and awesomely sluttish and a princess and a secret bodyguard/spy for the queen

Danielle: kickass and talks to animals and a mother and human and a princess and sort of a secret bodyguard/spy for the queen

So! I am going to finish the second one and then hopefully get writing, and y'all should seriously check them out, because SNOW/TALIA FOREVER, bscly.

ETA: BTW Jim Hines is totes pro-fanfic, which is why I read the first book in the first place. So if that's a motivator for you, let me just mention that ebooks of the first are available for Kobo, Kindle, Nook, and their associated desktop programs (ie you don't have to own a device), and the second for Kindle (and from B&N but DON'T, it's currently blank. They're working on that, theoretically).

littlemousling: Cartoon of person with two creatures ("alots"), says "I like this alot more." (things I like)
Everyone's probably heard about this already, but it's a great idea so I shall annoy y'all with another post about it:

[community profile] dark_agenda is running a challenge ficathon called Racebending Revenge.

They describe it as:
Re-write one or more white characters in the fandom(s) of your choice as chromatic/non-white/PoC, in a story of at least 500 words, with some acknowledgment of how the racial difference would make a difference to the story being told.

Basically, if you were seriously annoyed by the whitewashed casting of, say, Avatar: TLA, or Earthsea, or practically everything else in the history of ever, here's your chance to reverse the trend.
littlemousling: Brad Bell and Adam Lambert, in black and white (Bradam)
Too many WIPs! Feel like I was just fretting about only having short, porny ideas--guess the universe has brought me my comeuppance. Now have five separate relatively long (shortest will probably be 6K+, another at least 30K) pieces in some state of progress; three Bradam, my Kradam big bang, and a Good Wife Kalinda/Alicia thing that was supposed to be fun and has totally stalled. The others are very fun indeed but I can't focus on any one of them long enough to make real progress.

I think I need to do what I do when I have too many long-term knitting WIPs: commit to one at a time until they're fully drafted, and only then move on to the next.

... also, I need to go do today's scheduled Bar studying. The ongoing tide of Bradam is a damned strong distraction. (But seriously--they went to ANOTHER concert, just the two of them? And publicly tweeted about it even though they in no way needed to do that? They are warming us up for the inevitable pap photos of them making out in a club, is what this all tells me.)

ETA: Also, dear Bill Maher: STFU and GTFO with your black-president comments. JFC.
littlemousling: Brad Bell and Adam Lambert being smoking hot in a photo (bradam hotness)
So my twitter feed is all a-flutter about the idea of Brad/Adam AUs (thanks for the idea, [personal profile] torachan!).

A couple of people jumped right to the idea of using old queer novels as the setting, like Brideshead Revisited. I proposed Maurice, and someone else thought of the Picture of Dorian Grey.

Except ... this all seems like a really sad way to AU a couple of very out, very modern dudes. We put them in roles where they're closeted, in denial, or oppressed?

I think no, on that.

(Mostly RN I am dreaming of a modern Temeraire AU where Brad and Adam are officers assigned to the same dragon and they work off the excitement in the steam room and maybe there's some hurt/comfort that leads to a declaration of love, except I would feel totes weird writing it, considering the author's in the fandom.)
littlemousling: Flyer of a spinning wheel with the phrase "spinning yarns" above it (spinning)
From [personal profile] helens78 originally, [personal profile] seperis when I saw it.

Bold any reasons that apply to you, strike out any that don't (if you feel like it), and add three reasons of your own to the bottom.

1. To explore themes that I don't get to see in mass media using characters I love.
2. Because it's fun.
3. Because mass media does a crappy job of representing most people of color, women, people with disabilities, queer people, transgendered people, etc, and is especially crappy at intersectionality.
4. Because I can get more people aboard my ship writing a story than a manifesto.
5. Because TV science-fiction doesn't explore its science-fiction premises in enough depth.
6. Because it's a gift I can give a stranger and know they will enjoy it.
7. Because I resonate emotionally with the characters what I read and watch, and want to find out why by writing about it.
8. Because every tale is a universe, often with fascinating nooks and crannies that the original author never explored.
9. Because I've made some of my best and dearest friends through this very wacky hobby.
10. Because the world the creator made is vast, and I want to see more of it.
11. Because writing as a communal experience is amazing.
12. Because I can.

And mine:

13. Because it's hot.
14. Because sometimes you just get ideas, man, and you have to do something with them.
15. Because I find the fourth wall kind of pesky.
littlemousling: Animated gif of Kris Allen hugging Adam Lambert (Kradam hug)
Damn. Had grand plans to keep my Kradam Big Bang at or under an R rating, but ... what can I say, I had a cool idea for a character-development sex-scene.

My reputation as a writer of mostly-porn is probably a fair one. Ah, well. At least this one's upwards of 19K plot to 1K porn?

Also, am forcibly restraining myself from commenting on this pro rant against fanfic because I wasted enough energy this week on goddamned harmonyfb.
Yeah, that restraint didn't last long.

(You can click through for the tweet. Don't miss his link, it's an ADORABLE cup of coffee.)

OK, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that many other old SGA fans who saw this tweet flashed back immediately on The Perfect Cappucino, right?

There's something about that story that just hits my id, hard, even though I hate coffee. I used to flash back on parts of it all the time. So for those of you who haven't had the pleasure, there it is: John/Rodney, coffee shop AU, a simple, pleasant first-time story.

ETA: And actually, now that I'm rereading it, I can't help but notice that it features explicit consent. So shall we call this a Consent Challenge rec? I think we shall.
littlemousling: Brad Bell and Adam Lambert being smoking hot in a photo (bradam hotness)
Among the meta posts (and I do love the meta posts, believe me), there's also this gem: a panfandom Consent Challenge hosted by [personal profile] fairestcat.

The idea is to write or pimp a fic that has sex with explicit consent. (Actually, I bet podfic and art could apply as well, as long as there's explicit consent.)

So I wrote a little ficlet combining the IIHY video shoot news with a "yes, yes, yes" vibe, and posted it to my fic journal: "Oui, Si, Ya." Adam Lambert/Brad Bell, 2K, explicit.

Can't wait to read everyone else's! Enthusiastic consent is hot like burning.

Well, good!

Been busting my ass on my Kradam Big Bang, trying to work out the rough spots (it's pretty much all drafted, just needs heavy editing), and then I go to the comm and, what's that? May 21 is the due date for rough drafts?

In that case, stopping here and getting back to studying for the Bar.
