Stuffsit!

My received gift was this awesome (don't let the formatting stop you) Mikey/Gabe/William--as I'd asked, among other possibilities, for "Mikey/anyone" and "threesomes more than welcome!" this was fantabulous. It definitely fit my request for "joyful promiscuity," too!

And I wrote this:
Title: BDSM 201: Practical Applications
Pairing: Brendon/Spencer, (Brendon/Other Male Character)
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Brendon’s packed his clothes, his laptop, his guitar, and a calendar full of kinky gay events he wants to attend. College is going to be awesome.
Word Count: 32,191
Notable Content: No standard content notes apply. Contains misunderstandings; consensual BDSM; under-negotiated BDSM without negative outcomes; gossip; and minor references to teenage sexuality.
Notes: Beta'd by the awesome [personal profile] isweedan. Written for [personal profile] fictionalaspect and originally posted here.

SO, stuffsit was awesome. I had never participated before, and I mostly signed up because it looked really fun to fill out the request form (it was!). And then I got my recipient's requests, and I read them over and squinted at the page and went "... okay, there's no way this isn't [personal profile] fictionalaspect." I never actually asked the mod for the name, and I tried to stick within the bounds of the request as written, but it was definitely fun being pretty sure about who I was writing for--especially since we have rather a lot of tastes in common!

It was fun seeing just how easy it was for people to guess that I'd written it--I got several DMs almost as soon as it went up, all pretty much saying "oh that's definitely yours." They were right! And I only had one false positive (guessed a different fic was mine) the whole round.

I actually wrote about 5K each of two different stories before landing on this one; I might post them here at some point, because I doubt I'll finish them, but they have some fun bits. One's an office (record company) AU, and one's "Spencer sees Brendon's porn and Learns Things"--another kink-discovery fic. (I JUST LIKE KINK DISCOVERY OKAY.)

Anyway! Great exchange, super thrilled with the mod, would play again.

Title: Tacit Agreements
Pairing: Mikey/Alicia
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Mikey doesn't talk much about this stuff, but Alicia understands him.
Word Count: 6919
Notable Content: No standard content notes apply. Contains kink exploration.
Notes: This is for [personal profile] isweedan, who has been an unfailingly phenomenal beta for me over the last year. She has impressed me at every turn with her narrative insight, her directness, and her general knowledge, and I am incredibly grateful for the enormous amount of time and effort she has given me. I still have the rest of your list, bb, and trust me, this isn't the last time I'll be using it.

Podfic!

Soooo, I recorded a podfic! [personal profile] mistresscurvy wrote this hot&hilarious sick!Frank fic, and I kind of love it, and I thought it would be fun to record. Hopefully it's as fun to listen to!

Title: Silent Treatment (or on DW)
Author: [personal profile] mistresscurvy
Reader: [personal profile] littlemousling
Fandom/Pairing: My Chemical Romance, Frank/Gerard
Summary: Gerard gets a ridiculous amount of head when they're working on an album.
Length: ~2700 words, about 13 minutes
DL link: Mediafire link
Notes: My first podfic! Let me know if I really screwed something up, y'all.
littlemousling: A long joke about kiwis the bird and kiwis the fruit being the same thing. (kiwi)
SUCH a lovely lovely birthday. It's a bit too easy to get down at the mouth while I'm jobhunting, but today was a great reminder that I have wonderful, fun, supportive friends and family, and that makes all the difference in the world.

I met my mother in Niagara Falls (splitting the distance between us, although she had to go through customs), and we had a lovely lunch, a great walk around, and then some decadent desserts. It was just the kind of simple, relaxing day we both needed, and I'm so glad she suggested it.

And we took lots and lots of photos, of which I will only subject y'all to this one, in which my most-recently knit Bohus sweater makes an appearance (I'm rather proud of it, and it kept me nice and warm). Photo! )

I also had a nice long phone chat with my best friend, and I'm sure I'm about to have some sister phone calls as well.

And all of that was MORE than enough happiness for one day, but then on my way back to Toronto I got a notification in my email that a certain awesome ex of mine had sent me a gift story (yay AO3!), based on a conversation we had the other day about how awesome a story about non-sexual Frank puppyplay, where Jamia takes care of him alongside the (other) dogs, would be. SPOILER ALERT: IT IS INDEED AWESOME. Here it is: Dog Days, by the always-fantastic [personal profile] mistresscurvy. <33333 You're the best, bb.
ETA: aww and she posted this, too. BEST.

ETA II: OMG OMG OMG YOU GUYS. THE BEST BETA IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE IS APPARENTLY TRYING TO MAKE ME FALL OVER WITH ALL THE JOY TODAY, BECAUSE BECAUSE PODFIC! OF MY RIDICULOUS NOTFIC ABOUT ADAM LAMBERT AND RYAN ROSS AND ALL THE SCARVES! YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT HERE, omg omg I am going to go listen to it RIGHT NOW
littlemousling: Photo of Gerard Way and Frank Iero in Killjoys gear, performing at Reading (Gerard & Frank)
You guyssss, this is going to be so great!

A prompt-based challenge with a sick!Frank theme? BRING ME ALL OF THE HURT/COMFORT PLZ

I have ALL the AU prompt ideas. This is gonna be FUN, y'all.
littlemousling: Black square with "DO IT NOW and DO IT LOUD" written in white (MCR)
You guys YOU GUYS. You remember that time I met Ray Toro, and he said he recognized us from the barrier?

Well NO WONDER. Because we were ridiculous(ly awesome).

This video (well--better to think of it as audio, really) is us reacting to the FIRST FREAKING NOTE of Scarecrow* (and to the lyrics being brought out to Gerard).

(*yeah, yeah, insert all-caps and slashes here)

I'm told (I was watching Gerard) that Ray gave us a fairly incredulous "who ARE you people?" look, which, you know, I believe, because WHO ARE WE INDEED.
(Answer: awesome)

ETA: Today is a day for paretheses. Many, many, many parentheses.

BARRIER. ACTUALFAX BARRIER )

SHOWWWWWWW )

We. Met. Ray. And he remembered us from the audience! )

And then we all waited long enough to see Mikey and Frank go by in golf carts, and then went back to our various digs. [personal profile] mistresscurvy and I ended up staying up for another hour or two just repeating the phrase "oh my God, that was so fucking amazing" over and over and over (technically there was more conversation than that, but I swear we must have each said that, like, a KABILLION times. Approximately). Because it WAS.

ALL THE FUZZY MCR FEELINGS. And now I'm going to go reread [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl's Wave Two BBB and then, like, everything [livejournal.com profile] desfinado has ever written. ALL THE MCR FIC SHALL BE BELONG TO ME.

(Also. Feel free to rec Ray porn and Ray fic in general to me. NOW IS THE TIME.)

------

BTW--today is the anniversary of the Art is the Weapon trailer, which also means it's the anniversary of [personal profile] mistresscurvy getting into bandom. As she was the one who dragged me in along with her (for which I am extremely grateful!), this is also a fairly great This Day in History for me, too. Yay bandom; I love all y'all. Let's keep doing this thing we do.
littlemousling: Heart drawn in light on a long-exposure photograph (I think) (heart)
Okay I am going to do a full BBB wave 2 recs post soonest, but. Before I go to bed, here is the glorious reason I am still awake:

Let the Compass Point You Home, by [personal profile] mistresscurvy and [personal profile] amazonziti.

43K of epic fantasy-AU slavefic gloriousness, with trust-building and women wearing breeches and servants who are part of the family and Gerard and Lindsey and Frank and Jamia and LOVE and just all kinds of wonderful things. I think it will make you happy and warm your heart to read it, and I think it's got plenty to make you laugh, too. I've read it rather a lot of times by now, and I'm really really excited for people who get to read it for the first time.

Enjoy! \o/
littlemousling: Black square with "DO IT NOW and DO IT LOUD" written in white (MCR)
There are certain aspects of fannishness that don't lend themselves to excessive scrutiny. I, for one, will happily choose to believe that the photo of Mikeyway crossdressing is real, despite evidence to the contrary. And I'm more than happy to extrapolate from various rumours and interviews that Brendon is bi.

But, of course, much of the time the stuff we choose to assume because it's more fun/we like it will never, ever be proven, and we just have to live with that. We may think we have REALLY good reasons for our assumptions, but they're often still assumptions.

Here's something that's actually crossed over from fanon assumption to absolute, he-said-it-in-so-many-words canon:

So, just to be clear, when everyone says Gerard is making sex noises during certain songs? He is INTENTIONALLY MAKING SEX NOISES.
(I'm not saying it wasn't pretty clear before, but I like hearing him SAY IT. And maybe he's said it before, but this is the video I saw.)

Fuck, I love fandom.

Sucks.

So MCR had to fire their current drummer after catching him stealing from the band. No details are given, but police involvement pretty much says it all.

And just, you know. It sucks. The idea that they had all this fun together, with Frank and said drummer messing around on Twitter and presumably the group of them doing stuff together, doing stuff with their families, and that now they feel betrayed and Frank's deleted all the photos of the drummer off his twitter--it just sucks.

He did a couple of not-apologetic-exactly tweets about it, and yeah, it's a shitty situation for all concerned and people steal because they're desperate and, as [personal profile] epershand put it, less because they need money than because they are too desperately ashamed to tell anyone why they need money. There are always reasons, and they are never, ever, ever happy reasons. But. It really sucks.

Of all the bands that would understand a terrible addiction, or a horrible family situation, or a terrible lapse in judgment, and would try to help if given the chance--given MCR's history, I really absolutely believe they would listen, no matter what the situation, and that they would at least try to help in some way. And it fucking sucks to think of that option being shoved off the table by whatever the drummer did. For all of them, it sucks.
littlemousling: Flyer of a spinning wheel with the phrase "spinning yarns" above it (spinning)
This has just been a week of happy fandom things, hasn't it?

I can't even remember all of the wonderful things, so I'm going to list what I can remember and you all can feel free to remind me of the other awesome things!

--MCR played with Brian May! And it was amazing!
--MCR headlined Leeds and Reading! And were amazing!
--Panic played Leeds and Reading, and Brendon stripped again!
--Spencer, Brendon, and Zack twitter-wished Ryan a happy 25th birthday!
--PANIC BOYS AND A BABY

... oh god so many other things and I am blanking on all of them now! I think I am distracted by this:

Photobucket

This is not fandom happiness but it makes me very, very, very happy. I've been looking for a Canadian Production Wheel with a 30" drive wheel for two years now, and I finally found one, in great condition and spinning beautifully. I'm just over the moon about it.

ETA oh right! And Panic/Neon Trees/Black Cards in Central Park, two sleeps from now! I cannot tell y'all how excited I am. Six-hour drive to NYC, here I come!
littlemousling: Black square with "DO IT NOW and DO IT LOUD" written in white (MCR)
Photobucket

My interpretation of the gif's meaning: I love you, brother! Isn't our life grand! Aren't we the luckiest bastards in the fucking world? Also, dude, I still can't believe how amazing our wives are.

Today, this gif represents: Fandom joy! On a sad day (Jack Layton is definitely in my thoughts), twitter has been ably distracting me with fic ideas. I love how giving fandom is--ask a plot question or raise a possibility, and someone is always there to help prop the thought up. IT MAKES ME GRIN AND SPIN MY GUITAR AROUND, BASICALLY.
littlemousling: Photo of apples with flowers behind them (food)
HOWDY Y'ALL

So to follow up on a fascinating Twitter conversation: as a reader or as a writer or both or other, how do you think you fall on the "canon <---> fanon" spectrum?

What aspects of canon are most important to you? Characters' personalities? Characters' relationships (platonic and familial as well as romantic)? Characters' defining statistics (age, height, detailed history)? Settings? Major events? Minor events? All of the above?

For instance, here's my response. )

So, basically, I operate both in reading and writing as a gleeful slacker on dates/ages/heights/settings/etc, but fixate instead on the conceptions I have of the characters and their relationships, especially the most prominent/clearest aspects of those personalities and interactions. I'm all fanon on the first, and more of a canon stickler for the second.

I would love to hear where y'all think you sit on the spectrum(s), whether you want to talk about it in the comments or take it up in your own journal.
littlemousling: A long joke about kiwis the bird and kiwis the fruit being the same thing. (kiwi)
Photobucket

My interpretation of the gif's meaning: Life is wonderful! Have fun with it! No fear!

Today, this gif represents: How great my day at an amusement park with my sisters was, even though there were no balloons filled with glitter (and indeed no Gerard Way).
littlemousling: Black square with "DO IT NOW and DO IT LOUD" written in white (MCR)
If you haven't read this Kerrang interview of My Chemical Romance, I seriously, seriously cannot recommend it enough. It's an incredibly intimate look into the history of the band right up from their first (Frank-in-the-audience!) show, and it doesn't stint at all on the problems they've faced.

As most of my twitter feed is saying, this makes me really melodramatically glad that they just fucking lived through all of this shit, and that they've become the happy, settled people they clearly are now.

That said, trigger warning: It discusses drug use and abuse, alcohol use and abuse, depression, relationship conflict and breakdown, ill-advised coping mechanisms, and the like.
littlemousling: Still from a Cobra Starship video, shows Vicky-T with the caption "Feeling ... kinky" (kinky)
So I posted this (anon) to the bandom prompt meme a while ago, and have finally gotten around to putting it up at AO3.

Title: That Special Night
Pairing: Frank/Gerard
Rating: Explicit
Summary: On their wedding night, Gerard and Frank knot for the first time.
Word Count: 1065
Notable Content: Contains knotting (swelling of the head of the penis in order to lock the participants together during insemination). Also contains a serious lot of insufferable-newlywed-style affection.

Notes: Knotting, if it's new to you, is a weird quirk of canine biology. In this fic humans have it instead--there's no bestiality and no animals at all in the story. Gerard's penis is just extra-special.
littlemousling: Photo of rainbow-organized bookshelf with text reading, "Confirmed book addict." (books)
On the one hand, we have this great article about how Terry Pratchett writes female characters, and how his writing of them has changed over the years.

Sample quote:
But only when listening to Nigel Planer read it to me over the last few weeks did I realise something I had never entirely noticed before: this is a fantasy novel in which all the important characters are women. This is a fantasy novel by a bestselling male author in which all the important characters are women.

On the other hand, we have this Mark Reads review of the first part of My Immortal, which you may recall as the horrendous badfic about Gerard Way's vampire daughter, "Ebony Dark’ness [WHY IS THERE AN APOSTROPHE THERE] Dementia Raven Way" going to Hogwarts.

Sample quote:
This entire fic is literally like a nightmare of my junior high and high school years. And this is not me trying to be serious about My Immortal because I refuse to dignify any of this with that sort of mental strain, but these were the douches who told me I didn’t listen to real punk because Simple Plan was truly where it was at.
littlemousling: Yarn with a Canadian dime for scale (jon walker)
Okay, so Wave One is over and these are my favorites. I didn't read everything, but I did get a lot of "poison-tasting" help from friends, so I think I found most of the best ones. Feel free to recommend other faves to me, though!

So! In alphabetical order by title because that is how I roll:

The girl!Mikey AU:
Away With the Boys In the Band, by [personal profile] inlovewithnight: I am really bad about reading headers (as in, I usually don't), so I was very pleasantly surprised by the end pairing of this one. It covers Mikey's entire history with MCR up to December 2010, so there's some dark stuff (depression, the Paramour), but it doesn't needlessly linger, and it's just absolutely lovely, exactly what I want out of a genderswap fic. Girl!Mikey faces different challenges than boy!Mikey, but is still Mikey.

The Killjoys AU:
Draculoids Will Never Hurt You, by [personal profile] were_duck and [personal profile] sassbandit: okay, technically I am still reading this. But I can already tell it's fabulous--and I'm not really much for Killjoys AUs (because, SAD), so that's saying something.

The King of Ilyria AU:
King and Country, by [personal profile] tabula_x_rasa: SO SWEET. Instead of ending with Frank riding off in a carriage with the king, that's where it starts: Frank's lover, the exiled Prince, finds himself having to become King. Enchanting and a fun read.

The Elves AU:
More Than You Could Ever Know, by [profile] moku_youbi: Elves! This is the fourth in a bunch of stories in this universe, but you only need to have read the chronological third (the one about elf Brendon) to read this. It's clearly a Panic writer doing MCR, but as a Panic writer, that works fine for me.

The Train AU:
On the Midtown Direct, by [personal profile] mistresscurvy: Okay, I am slightly biased about this one, but seriously, it's just excellent. The tone is beautiful, and not the kind of thing you see in fic as much as I might like. It's a tight Gerard POV complete with very Gerard neuroses and considerations, great Mikey, and a Frank that you, too, will fall in love with.

The Trans Jon AU:
Recognize Myself, by [personal profile] fifteendozentimes: This is the one I was SO NERVOUS ABOUT when the summaries went up, and then it totally proved itself. It's an absolutely gorgeous picture of Jon coming to terms with himself, and Ryan helping (most of the time) with that process. Jon is kind of stupid and kind of messed up and very, very real.

The Rugby AU:
Running in Slow Motion, sequel to You Can Sit Beside Me (When The World Comes Down), by [livejournal.com profile] sunsetmog_fics: If you haven't read the first rugby AU ... what have you been doing with your life, omg, go read it, it's wonderful. It diverges from the usual fanon portrayal of Brendon and Spencer in a really unusual way, but she sells it--the woman is a BNF of Brendon/Spencer for damned good reason. Spencer is the flyhalf, okay, bow down to his awesomeness.

The High School Het+Poly AU:
Where We Land, by [personal profile] fictionalaspect: Another one where I went, "uh ... maybe not" until it actually came out. I don't think I would have taken a chance on these pairings (Brendon/Z Berg, Spencer/Ryan/Tennessee) from another author, but [personal profile] fictionalaspect could write Brendon/birdseed and I would read it. I'm still lingering over the last part, but it's just gorgeous.

-------------

Also, I haven't yet read but have heard great great things about On the Getaway Mile, which is a sequel to the fabulous Shook-Up World, both by [personal profile] jezrana. (Prohibition-era crossdressing AU)

Ditto about James Cameron Got It Wrong, by [personal profile] ladyfoxxx. (Time-travel partial Killjoys AU)

Further ditto for Sing Me Something That I Can Understand, by [personal profile] arsenicjade. (Ryan and Jon drug abuse AU)
